Express Entry CRS Score: What It Is and What Changed for Job Offers
In this guide
Quick answer: The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score ranks the candidates in the Express Entry pool. IRCC provides an official CRS calculator, which asks about your marital status, age, education, official languages and more. Since March 25, 2025, job offers no longer give CRS points, though a job offer can still be part of eligibility for certain programs.
What is a CRS score?
IRCC uses the CRS to rank profiles in the Express Entry pool. If you are invited to apply, you use your age on the date you were invited; if you are planning a profile, you use your current age. The system’s own result governs if it differs from the calculator.
What did change about job offers?
As of March 25, 2025, IRCC removed job offer points from the CRS for current and future candidates. That covered offers in Major Group 00 of the National Occupational Classification (200 points) and offers in any other skilled occupation (50 points). It may take a few days for a score to show correctly.
What isn’t changing?
If a valid job offer is part of the eligibility criteria, that stays. This includes the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Federal Skilled Worker Program in some cases, and some provincial nominee streams. You should still enter job offer details in your profile to stay eligible.
What does the calculator ask?
- Marital status, and whether your spouse is a citizen or permanent resident or is coming with you.
- Your age.
- Your level of education, including whether you earned a Canadian degree, diploma or certificate, or have an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
- Your official language results, which must be less than two years old.
The tool also covers further factors. Use the live tool for the full list.
Which education counts as Canadian?
To answer yes to a Canadian credential, IRCC says: English or French as a second language can’t make up more than half your study; you must not have studied under an award requiring you to return home; you studied at a school within Canada (foreign campuses don’t count); and you were enrolled full time and physically present for at least eight months, with special rules for study completed between March 2020 and August 2022. Distance learning counts for education points but not for bonus points.
What if you studied abroad?
You need an ECA from an approved agency, valid for the last five years. See our ECA guide.
How to raise your score honestly
- Retake an approved language test if you can improve; see the test guide.
- Complete an ECA for foreign education.
- Look at a provincial nomination, which adds 600 points.
Common mistakes
- Assuming a job offer still adds 50 or 200 points.
- Using the wrong age date.
- Entering expired language results.
